Even for a winter visit, make sure that you call ahead because while some Ocracoke hotels stay open year round, others close during the winter. Rates generally change with the seasons, but you can expect to pay a bit more during the summer season.

In general the Ocracoke hotels and inns in the center of the village and around the harbor are closer to shops. Those on the north end of the village, alternatively, are closer to restaurants. To be fair, though, everything on Ocracoke is within walking distance. If you’re willing to walk a mile (in the most extreme cases) in one direction, you’ll have no problems.

If this is your first time visiting Ocracoke, you can get the lay of the land in mere minutes. All you need to do is hop on a bike, rent a golf cart or stroll around a little and you’ll be navigating like a local in no time. For a true local experience, just ask any friendly face you meet for directions or guidance. Lots of Ocracoke hotels provide bikes for their guests to use, or you can rent one at several local shops. For an extra dose of style, choose a tandem bike! Golf carts are also available for rent at many locations on the island if you want to cover the area with a little more speed but still want to experience the wind in your hair.
