Ocracoke Island is rightly proud of its love for music and stories; in fact, islanders consider them important parts of their heritage and culture. Ocracoke nightlife is no exception. If you’re looking for a night out, you can expect music to be involved. You may visit a local restaurant where you can jam out to themed music with some of your favorite songs. Maybe you’ll be chilling at a bar or restaurant with your friends as you listen to the croon of live music fill the background. Or you could enjoy the most Ocracoke-y of all of the nightlife activities and visit the concert hall and theater where you can listen to local musicians perform, storytellers regale their tales and other theatrics. Musicians performing at Ocracoke include bands and solo artists who are native Outer Bankers weaving coastal and folk influences into their compositions. In fact, Ocracoke is home base to the nationally known group Molasses Creek.
Every first weekend in June, Ocracoke hosts the Ocrafolk Festival, which features up and coming and well-established folk singers. It's three days of blissfully wandering between stages to hear music that makes you want to sing along and tap your feet. And if you’re visiting during the Fourth of July weekend, Ocracoke events have a treat for you with the Fourth of July Independence Day Festival.
