If stepping into the studio of a longtime local artist sounds fun, you must visit Kitty Mitchell Studio. Ocracoke School's art teacher for 30 years and a mover and shaker on the island, Mitchell has her studio open to the public. You can stop in and meet the artist and see her at work and also shop for wonderful artistic treasures in her gallery. Mitchell's artwork includes colorful surreal, fantasy, abstract and landscape paintings plus prints and jewelry made from local seashells and sand dollars and beads. She also sells the work of a few other local artists, including Rita Lawrence's grapevine baskets. You'll find this studio and gallery in the heart of the village, next to Mermaid's Folly.
