New to the 2019 summer season is the much-anticipated Hatteras-Ocracoke passenger ferry. Passengers can board the ferry from the Hatteras village terminal or the Ocracoke Silver Lake Terminal, make the 70-minute trip between the islands then spend as much time as they like exploring, beach going, shopping and sampling to local fare. If you're heading to Ocracoke, ditching the car puts you in the right direction for getting around, island-style; most people opt to walk or bike as their main mode of transportation here. The passenger ferry makes three round trips every day during the summer, leaving Hatteras at 9:30 a.m., 1 and 4:30 p.m. and departing Ocracoke at 11 a.m., 3 and 8 p.m. The cost to ride is $1 per one-way trip, through June 30, 2019. Starting July 1, 2019, the fare will be $2 per trip. Be sure to arrive a little early if you plan on walking on to the ferry.
