Ocracoke Status Updates - Shopping

Brant Godfrey became a Trustee on the OPS Executive Committee in the Fall of 2020. His first interaction with OPS was serving on the Berkley Manor Steering Committee in the early 2000’s. Brant is a semiretired attorney from Winston-Salem, NC. He and his wife Beverly fell in love with the island in the late 1970’s and have maintained a residence here since 1994. Since he started on the board, Brant has taken over the Land Use Committee and has given OPS an incredible amount of time and knowledge in Real Estate and Law. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication to OPS, Brant!

Did you know that figs don’t just grow on trees around here? This paper fig shell is one of the treasures washed in from the recent low that pushed up from warmer waters (I believe that’s how all the Portuguese Man o’ Wars got here too). While NC is within its “normal” range, they aren’t common this far north. Keep your eyes open while on the beach, and even though it’s really hard to do if something is living in a shell you find, please be kind and return it to the sea instead of taking it home.

Thank you to everyone who visited us this year, volunteered their time, and donated to one of our projects. We would not have had such a wonderful year without all of your support! We have a lot planned in 2024 and hope to see you at the museum or one of our events! Our next events will be in March - our annual Spring Meeting and our Art Auction fundraiser. The museum will be closed until late March/early April 2024 while we work on maintenance, our collection, and creating new displays. Until then, keep an eye on our Island Inn & Commons Project across from Spencers Marketplace and visit our online gift shop or donate online.

It's the time of the season for shopping! The OPS Museum & Gift Shop will be closed today and our last day of the season for in-person shopping will be Tuesday, December 5th. Everything is still 10-50% off, so take a look at our online store and pick out some Christmas presents! December 11th is the last day you can trust your online purchases will get to you by Christmas.

While it may be winter time, we are already thinking about summer!
